  • Maintaining, operating, and constructing high-voltage lines and equipment

  • Operating heavy equipment such as cranes, boom trucks, and
    digger derricks
  • Being a first responder to restore power after natural disasters

Career Pathway to Top-Out

Pre-Apprentice

As a pre-apprentice at NLC, you’ll learn the knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed to be highly qualified for initial employment, successful in completing future training programs, and prepared to pursue a long, rewarding career.

 

Groundman

As a groundman, you’ll work on a crew as you learn on-the-job and prepare for an apprenticeship.

 

Apprentice

You’ll continue working on a crew as you progress through a 6,000 – 8,000 hour apprenticeship where you’ll learn from a combination of technical instruction and on-the-job learning under the mentorship of a journeyman.

 

Journey-Level

You’ve finished your apprenticeship and topped out with several years of experience in the trade. You’ll teach others the trade and model professionalism, craftsmanship, work ethic, and a safety mindset.
